The visiting team's opening batsmen got off to a strong start. On the wicket are Tom Latham (age 78) and Dion Conway (age 82). Fast and spin bowlers for the national team attempted to get wickets but were unsuccessful.

On the first ball of the first over on the second day, Tim Southee removed Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who had earlier begun the rest of his team's innings on 317 for five. He played a 161-run inning.

Nouman Ali and Agha Salman put together a 54-run partnership after Babar Azam was dismissed. No player, however, was able to maintain the wicket after Nouman Ali's wicket fell.

After scoring the first century of his career, Agha Salman was out for 103 runs.

Tim Southee, the captain of the Kiwis, grabbed three wickets, compared to two apiece for Ash Sodhi, Ijaz Patel, and Michael Bracewell. Only one wicket could be taken by fast bowler Neil Wagner.
